miyounqs asked: hi guys! i just wanted to say i love this blog so much and thank you for creating it. :) on another note, one of my close friends was raped last year that made me very sensitive about it. but another friend of mine constantly makes rape jokes like "I WILL RAPE YOU" when someone messes up her hair. I've tried to tell her its wrong and ignorant of her but she always gets mad at me and says its just a joke and that i'm being a prude and just makes more jokes. any suggestions for me to say to her?

You could tell her that rape is a serious violent sex crime and that when she pairs it with humor she is making fun of and dismissing rape victims. Maybe when you guys aren’t joking around, have a serious conversation with her. Sometimes when you put people on the spot by pointing out what they did wrong- they are more apprehensive to accepting what you said. But if you pull them aside, they are more accepting. That’s what I’ve experienced.

BUT if she can’t see why that’s wrong- seriously just stop taking to her to show her that it is unacceptable. Or maybe, if you don’t want to end it like that, then when she does that look her dead ass in the face and say “Nice joke, asshole.” Forreal.

People are so used to using the word “rape” as an adjective for everything and as a medium for jokes, and completely throw out its original context of a violent crime.

It’s hard because you don’t want to lose your friend but at the same time they are being a dick. I went through something similar. What I did, after I explained it was wrong and they kept going, I dropped them. If they can’t see why rape isn’t funny, even after you explain why several times, and they dismiss you insultingly then fuck them- but that’s me.

OTL I hope this helped
