bongho:

So this is currently happening in a Feminoonas post.

Okay obviously this is a troll, but I still have something to say about it because misogynistic attacks are nothing rare in K-Pop fandom and some people honestly do think this way. Actually, when I think about it that way, it’s entirely possible that it isn’t a troll. But I digress.

It’s easy to attack women in the entertainment business for being “too suggestive” or “slutty”, because the patriarchy has created roles and limitations for the expression of female sexuality while simultaneously demanding women exhibit “sexiness” - the idea of being sexy, but not sexual. And it’s obvious that the same scrutiny and standards apply to men; a huge chunk of Rain’s career and marketing has been him stripping shirtless and thrusting on stage, 2PM during the Heartbeat/Without U eras displayed more abs than a buffet on a topless beach, and Big Bang’s Taeyang couldn’t seem to go more than five minutes without ripping his shirt off for awhile. But I have yet to see anyone seriously claim that this is going to RUIN THE CHILDREN or engage in any other metaphorical “pearl-clutching” over it.

Why?

I think it comes down to how we socialize children when it comes to behavior and etiquette, particularly when it comes to sexuality. Women are often expected to dress a certain way, to maintain modest standards because “it’s distracting to boys,” whereas boys are given the pass of “boys will be boys”. This ties into how rape-culture has been constructed, where what a victim is wearing is considered to be relevant evidence to a case. She wore a skirt? Easy access, so she must have been asking for it.

Look at what Saveyoursoul said in the first image:

“It’s a slut generation. Their intention is simple. Wriggle their ass in tiny short pants (hiking all the way up to their bush) to make guys masterbate [sic] to their vids.

You wear shorts and some guy jerks it to you? Well it’s your fault you little whore for exposing skin, how dare you! Don’t go outside, because men will view you as a piece of meat and it’s all your fault. It’s not their fault for dehumanizing you, for viewing you as nothing more as an object for sexual gratification. Oh no, because boys will be boys and it is on girls to correct this.

There’s something wrong with a cultural attitude that demands other people be responsible for other people’s behavior as opposed to their own.
